 Nourishing Yourself 

To truly live more fully, we feel best when

we address all aspects of our being:

the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical.

In my own quest for healing and wellness, I have researched and utilized a large variety of products with the intent of nourishing myself on all levels.  Having lived a stressful life and experienced burnout, my body reflected the imbalances through symptoms and illness.

 

Committed to healing, over time and after much trial and error and a lot of research, I have found what works best and most quickly for me to support, heal, nourish and regenerate myself.  I'd like to share what's been most useful, with the intention of facilitating the process for you and saving you time.   Of course, you are unique, so you will find your own best path as well.  Here are some examples of what I have found that facilitates nurturing myself.

 

The lifestyle changes I made took a commitment to my own health and well-being.  Beginning to learn and use "Reference Point Therapy" (RPT) made it much easier to apply the changes on a more consistent basis, as I am able to quickly and easily use RPT to address any resistance that comes up and to embody the new lifestyle changes I was applying.

 

Our medical system of Western, Allopathic medicine is useful in certain situations.  In terms of prevention, recovery, treating the actual cause of an illness, as well as living in true wellness, I have found other systems to better promote health and well-being.

 

These systems are holistic, addressing the being as a whole ~ the mind, the body and the spirit.  A holistic, wellness lifestyle includes life~supporting habits.  As we learn how to nourish and support ourselves on all levels, we begin to experience life more fully, with more vitality, energy, clarity and purpose.

 

LOVING AND HONORING SELF:

 

In this journey, the most important lesson has been choosing to love and honor myself.  At the time I first realized the importance of unconditional self-love and acceptance, I was shocked.  I had been taught (as have so many others) that loving oneself is selfish.  The goal had been to give, give, give.  Yet I was giving without repleneshing myself.  I was giving without paying attention to my own needs.  The end result:  Burnout!  (Sound familiar?)

 

Choosing to love and honor myself  has meant realizing and learning the ways I can best nurture myself, and then keep choosing to do so, moment by moment.  Initially, I experienced guilt, shame and discomfort by choosing to take care of myself.  I feared others might have negative reactions - and some did!  I was swimming against the current of the old patterns.   The more I swam in the direction of self-love, the stronger I got.  And as I use "Reference Point Therapy" on my own reactions (and my reactions to others' reactions), I free my energy, attention and myself to focus more on what was in the highest good for all.

 

Taking care of ourselves is for the highest good.  When we make conscious, grounded choices from our serenity, wisdom and common sense, these decisions, regardless of others' initial reactions, create the best results.  Yet we are swimming against the negative aspects of the ego mind.  We are swimming against the current of martyrdom, sacrifice, and self-neglect.  We are swimming against the current of habit and unconsciousness.  We are choosing to change.

 

In other words, we are swimming for growth, transformation and the good of all.  We are choosing to be more, to shine our light, to more freely express our true potential.  And the more we choose to love ourselves, to do what is most loving for ourselves, the more energy, unconditional love, compassion, wisdom and perspective we have ~ for ourselves and all.  We become greater expressions of who we are, that which we seek.

 

In this process of discovering how to better love and accept myself, "warts and all", I noticed the other side of the coin: recognizing the unconscious, habitual ways I have not been reverent towards myself or others.  The easiest and most effective way to  address these past patterns and mistaken choices has been through "RPT", forgiveness, making amends and choosing and behaving differently now.

 

RPT facilitates acceptance of ourselves - the whole self.  So often we have judged aspects of ourselves, areas we reject, aspects we have denied and then projected on to others (it is so easy to see it in "them"!)  Using RPT helps bring home these aspects, so that we can gently, lovingly look at ourselves, and compassionately love and accept ourselves, as we are.  The other gift is that through each moment of unconditional acceptance, we free ourselves to also then love and accept others more in ways that work for all.  Then true transformation automatically happens, and we change naturally from the inside out, and our lives and relationships change for the better.

 

In my search for greater peace and harmony, both within and without, I was blessed to find out about NVC - Nonviolent Communication, aka: Compassionate Communication.  Compassionate Communication teaches us how to live and communicate with self and others more compassionately, authentically, lovingly and honestly.  Through the application of the techniques and spirit of Compassionate Communication relationships are healed, starting with the relationship with ourselves.  Forgiveness, self-connection, harmony and clarity naturally are experienced as we choose to live the consciousness of Compassionate Communication.  

 

LIFESTYLE CHANGES:

 

Along with eating whole, natural organic foods, avoiding processed foods, GMO (genetically modified foods), sugar, grains, dairy, and other foods; and drinking lots and lots of pure water, I have also been cleansing my body (detoxifying it).  I have found it necessary to move my body and clear the energy meridians, (e.g. practicing DahnHak (aka: Dahn Yoga - a Korean energy system - though Qi Gong and other energy systems like Tai Chi work well also), using TFT (Thought Field Therapy) or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Bowen Bodywork (that works on the energetic, physical and emotional bodies) and other modalities.   Deep belly breathing, dancing, swimming and/or walking also support the body in functioning well. 

 

Interestingly, using "Reference Point Therapy" has been the primary way of clearing energetic blocks and added significantly to my overall well-being.  Adding in the nutritional changes, movement, and bodywork have been necesary supports for the body as well.

 

MOVEMENT:

 

Movement and exercise increases the endorphins in our brain, as well as support lymphatic drainage.  (When the lymph glands are blocked, toxins stay in our bodies, which leads to more symptoms, later leading to actual disease.)  Of course, we want to exercise and do strength training to avoid osteoporosis as well.   Good sleep hygiene is also essential, as when we sleep well and we rest, the body repairs and regenerates itself.  Taking care of our body leads us to feeling better, thus we function more effectively.

 

FOODS:

 

Today's food found in supermarkets is highly processed, with the addition of chemicals, pesticides (used in growing the genetically modified foods commonly sold), and not very nutritious.  Organic, whole non-GMO (not genetically modified) foods provide some actual nutrition.  Even many of the packaged health food items are not nearly as nutritious as organic whole foods - vegetables, nuts, free-range and grass fed meats.

 

Please note that dietary needs vary from person to person, with some doing well on an vegetarian diet, higher in complex carbs, with others doing better with a "hunter gatherer" diet that includes some free-range, organic meats, fish, chicken and turkey, nuts, minimal or no grains, lots of greens and some fruits.  ("The Metabolic Typing Diet" is a good resource for an exploration of how different diets affect us each in our own way.)

 

Also, each one of us is unique, and what works for one may not work well for another.  (Seek the assistance of a health professional when dealing with any illness or starting any exercise program.)

 

NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS:

 

The more I have researched, the more I have found simplicity is best.  Each person (and their body) is unique, so you'll get to enjoy your own journey in discovering what supports you best.   I have found that over time, my needs for certain supplements has changed, thus it is important to keep open to listening to the body to find what works best now.  And as we grow, what we need changes...

 

Digestive enzymes and liquid minerals are good supports for the body.  The more stressed we have been, the less easily we absorb foods and supplements.  Digestive enzymes support absorption and taking minerals in liquid form allows the body to utilize much more of the supplement (rather than flush it down the toilet).

 

For further nourishment for the body and also to support gentle detoxification, I have been following a nourishing diet that fits my body, utilizing various supplements and essential oils from doTERRA. (For more info, click on Nurturing Oils page)  www.mydoTERRA.com/31114/  .  I have also been detoxifying my body with various different supplements.

 

NATURAL, REVITALIZING CLOTHING:

 

One of the coziest ways of supporting my healing is through the Negative Ion Clothing and Bedding from Nefful.  I find that when I wear it (and sleep in it), my body naturally relaxes.  It is so very, very soothing... and feels sooo good...

 

Aches and pains are greatly lessened, energy is increased, my ability to focus and my moods are greatly improved.  The ability to be in environments that normally would be too overstimulating shifts when I wear the Negative Ion Clothing - so that I can handle what previously would have been a situation of "overload" or too overwhelming (due to energetic sensitivities).   In other words, my body is able to handle much more, in a relaxed, more grounded and happier state.
